To help the assassins in their quest, Desmond will be exploring his DNA to find another ancestor’s memory: Ezio Auditore Di Firenze; a nobleman who lived at the end of the 15th Century in Italy. Betrayed by the ruling families of Italy, Ezio embarks upon an epic quest for vengeance. To his allies, he will become a force for change – fighting for freedom and justice. To his enemies, he will become a boogey man – dedicated to the destruction of the tyrants abusing the people of Italy. On his quest for vengeance, Ezio – and Desmond through Ezio’s story – will uncover a much bigger plot: A conspiracy rooted in Assassin’s Creed and that still impact the world of Desmond – our very world.
Time
* The game opens in 1476 in the heart of the Italian Renaissance (Altair is from 1191, during the Third Crusade)
Main Character
* You play as Ezio Auditore di Firenze, a new ancestor of Desmond / descendant of Altair.
* Ezio is a nobleman of Florence and CAN swim.
* While hiding in a hay bail, you can assassinate people this time, but it may expose your position.
* You can still climb towers and ride horses
* Desmond Miles is back again and this time, the modern portions of the game are said to be more exciting.
Locations
* You will see the countryside of Tuscany as missions will take you from Venice to Florence and the rural areas in between
* The game will be more open-world as the side missions can essentially be taken on in any order
* Locations in Venice include Saint Mark's Basilica, The Grand Canal and The Rialto Bridge.
Additional Characters
* Big secondary characters in the game include Leonardo da Vinci, Machiavelli, Caterina Sofrza, and Lorenzo de Medici
* Da Vinci will be a valuable ally of Ezio, providing him with new inventions and upgrades to his weapons
Missions
* There are 16 unique mission types, and the eavesdropping and pick-pocketing missions have been removed.
* You do indeed fly using da Vinci's flying machine (in one mission, Ezio is kept aloft with warm air currents rising off his allies)
* The game will feature a new notoriety system that governs how enemy soldiers and people will treat you.
* Ezio can carry out missions to lower his notoriety in order to decrease the number of suspicious guards around.
* These missions include (but are not limited to) tearing down posters, taking out witnesses or paying them off.
* Hidden objects (like flags in AC1) are there to find but this time, in-game bonuses are present.
* Items include (but are not limited to) flags, statues, and gold coins.
Enemies
* New enemy types with unique attitudes and weaknesses are present in the game. There are archers, dagger wielders, "Brutish" armored troops with heavy armor and 2 handed swords and axes, and an intelligent halberd enemy will probe hiding places with their weapons if they think you're near by.
* Enemies will grow more aggressive and skilled as the game goes on.
* If you get hurt continuously, you will need to see a street side doctor to regain full strength.
Weapons and Combat
* The final game will have over 30 weapons
* New weapons include (but are not limited to) an axe, a hammer, a mace, a spear, 2 different sword types, a spear-axe and 2 smaller blades
* The game will have a deep combat system that includes all of the mentioned weapons as well as deep bear-handed mechanics.
* There is now a night and day sequence in the game.
* You can disarm enemies and use their own weapons against them.
* Each weapon has a special attack.
* According to Patrice Desilets, the creative director of the game, additional weapons can be unlocked on the PS3 by playing the PSP version (Source)
